BALDWIN+HOMPSON IS THE COLLABORATIVE WORD ART OF CLIFF BALDWIN AND DAVI DET HOMPSON. THEIR FIRST COLLABORATIONS WERE PERFORMANCES IN 1980 AND 1982 AT THE KANSAS CITY ART INSTITUTE, FOLLOWED BY OTHERS AT LIMELIGHT AND DANCETERIA IN NEW YORK IN 1985 AND 1986. FROM 1982 TO 1986 THEY CO-PUBLISHED AND CURATED ¡AQUI! A SILKSCREENED, OVERSIZED BROADSIDE MAGAZINE THAT FEATURED ORIGINAL IMAGES BY HOMPSON, BALDWIN, JULIE BRADRICK, BARBARA KRUGER, LES LEVINE, STEVE GIANAKOS, GENERAL IDEA, AND GILBERT AND GEORGE.
IN 1991 THEY CURATED THE NINE IS A FOUR LETTER WORD PORTFOLIO OF LETTERPRESS POSTER/ PRINTS THAT TRAVELED TO COLOGNE, PHILADELPHIA, BERLIN AND CORNELL UNIVERSITY AND IS IN THE COLECTION OF MoMA. THEY LATER PUBLISHED BOOKS, VIDEOS AND EXHIBITED MULTIPLES AND WORD INSTALLATIONS IN TOKYO, CHICAGO, NEW YORK AND FINALLY AT VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY IN RICHMOND. HOMPSON DIED VERY UNEXPECTEDLY IN 1996 DURING THE RICHMOND SHOW. HIS EXTENSIVE FLUXUS COLLECTION STARTED IN THE EARLY 1960’S IS MOVING TO THE WALKER ART CENTER IN MINNEAPOLIS.
