Dovzhenko's classic film Earth The ACME performs a live score to Ukrainian director, Oleksandr Dhovzhenko's 1930 silent masterpiece, Earth, at the Jamesport Meeting House in Jamesport, NY. Featuring Rob Shepperson, Cliff Baldwin and special guest Buchla artist Marcia Bassett. Funds raised from the event benefited The International Red Cross in Ukraine.
Earth tells the story of a small farming village in Ukraine grappling with new Soviet collectivization policies, land ownership issues and the centuries-old farming techniques that tie them to nature and the land they love. ACME created a contemporary score to this classic film which clearly parallels today's struggle in Europe. The instrumentation adds a fresh new 21st century sound to a visually rich constructivist work of cinema.
